Windows device driver information for 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN

The 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN is a Network Interface Card (NIC) which features a technology that will allow network administrators to power up computers from remote locations. The Wake on LAN technology supported by the 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN and its corresponding network driver may take the computer system out of sleep mode either to initiate scheduled tasks or eliminate the need to routine check the machine from its physical location. By installing the necessary device driver for the 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN hardware, the computer user gains the functionality of performing troubleshooting steps or accessing files stored in the remote machine just like he was physically present in front of it. This feature can only be invoked with NICs that specifically support the Wake on LAN function in its chipsets.

Essentially when installing the 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN and its corresponding driver, the computer system receives wake up calls (data packets or frames) from a server machine. The server machine which sends the signal must have a network management application active to initiate the wake up process. Once the wake up signal reaches the target machine, the 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN processes the instructions and sends it directly to the computer to power it on or bring it out of sleep (standby) mode. Aside from the 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN, its corresponding driver, and the remote management program, this supported feature also requires motherboard support. The driver for the 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN will be communicating with the Wake on LAN enabled motherboard to make the process possible. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and 82557-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN errors before installing any driver updates.
