Windows device driver information for ALi Memory Stick controller

The ALi Memory Stick Controller device provides bridging function between a flash memory device and the computer system. This memory stick controller device has support for virtually all types of flash memory cards such as the Memory Stick, MultimediaCard, Smart Media and Compact Flash. Flash memory is utilized for quick and easy information storage in personal computers, video game consoles, digital cameras, etc. It is utilized more like a hard drive rather than as RAM (random access memory). Flash memory is likewise as an SSD or solid state storage device which means that it has no moving components and that instead of being mechanical, it is electronic. Flash memory is a kind of Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) chip. It contains a grid of rows and columns with a cell that contains 2 transistors on every intersection.

The 2 transistors are split up from each other by a layer of thin oxide. One of the 2 transistors is called the control gate while the other transistor is called the floating gate. The sole link of a floating gate to a row (also called the wordline) is via the control gate. As long as the said link is properly in place, the cell will have the 1 value. On the other hand, to modify the value of 1 to a 0, a process known as the Fowler-Nordheim tunneling is required. This tunneling process is utilized for altering the electrons’ positions in the floating gate. An electrical charge typically between 10 to 13 volts will then be set on the floating gate. This electrical charge will come from the column (also called a bitline). The electrical charge will then enter the floating gate and then subsequently drain to a ground. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and ALi Memory Stick controller errors before installing any driver updates.
