Windows device driver information for Composite Device

The Composite Device driver is compatible who Windows XP and Windows 2000. The composite device usually presents the host computer with multiple interfaces, on first configuration. As such, the composite device is able to combine several USB-based applications, with no hub needed for the connections. The Composite devise is Bus powered. For the composite device to work in a host computer, the computer must have a compatible evaluation board, a compatible microcontroller and must be running on windows XP or windows 2000. For USB composite devices, the host must have either 1.1 USB or 2.0 hi-speed USB. The user also needs a USB cable to make the connection. The devices connected to the composite device are operable as stand-alone devices. Such include mouse, mass storage devices and generic HID devices. The composite device operation requires the user to integrate the different interfaces to the device.

With the composite device, the user can add new interfaces whenever the need arises. This however requires the user to modify the number of interfaces on the configuration descriptor platform. The firmware for this device has a universal architecture. This means that the user needs to access the file that contains the description parameters and modify or add the parameters in order to customise the device by adding new interfaces. In this case, each application requires the use of a unique PID/VID. This requires the user to add a description for the new interface. The first interface is identified with a xero (0). Any new interface is identified with the number which is one number higher than the previous interface. Other things that the user may need to specify during the interface addition include endpoint descriptors related to the new interface. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and Composite Device errors before installing any driver updates.
