The Courier V32bis with ASL supports the V.32bis standard. This standard was developed for asynchronous and synchronous full-duplex modems having speeds of 4800, 7200, 9600, 12000 and 14400 bps as well as using echo cancellation and TCM. The standard supports rate regeneration, enabling the modems to change speed rates. The V.32bis also detects improved line conditions and shift s upward to the next higher speed. It goes down to lower speeds when it detects poor conditions. This is the effect of ASL or Adaptive Speed Leveling.

Courier V32bis with ASL can adapt to different speeds depending on the line conditions. It switches from speeds of 21600, 19200, 16800, 14400, 12000, 9600, 7200 or 4800 bps.
