Windows device driver information for EWS88 D

The EWS88 D is a sound card or audio card. It is a computer expansion card that facilitates the input and output of audio signals to and from a computer, under the influence of computer programs. The uses of sound cards include providing the audio component for multimedia applications such as editing video or audio, music composition, presentation, education and entertainment (games). A lot of computers have built in sound capabilities, while others require other expansion cards to provide for audio capability. Updated cards usually include more than one sound chip to have higher data rates and multiple simultaneous functionalities. Digital sound reproduction is usually done with multi-channel DACs, which are capable of multiple digital examples simultaneously at different pitches and volumes. It can also be done by applying real-time results like filtering or distortion. Multi-channel digital sound playback can also be used for music programs when used with a compliance and even multiple-channel emulation. This approach has become regular as manufacturers seek to simplify the design and the cost of sound cards.

The EWS88 D is composed of specialized parts. It has a specialized processor called the DSP (digital signal processor). This DSP does all the digital audio processing (echo, reverb, vibrato chorus, tremolo and 3D effects. The digital to analog converter or DAC for short, converts the computer's audio data into an analog signal for sending to a sound system (such as speakers or an amplifier). The analog to digital converter, or ADC for short, converts an analog input signal into digital data which a computer can process. This sound card also has external input/output connectors (on or two standard 3.5 mm line-out jacks, normally light green in color) and a line-in jack, a microphone input (sometimes called Mic) usually a pink-coloured 3.5 mm jack. It also has an SPDIF digital output (Sony Philips Digital Interface, also known as S/PDIF or S-PDIF or IEC 958 or IEC 60958). This is an output line which sends digitized audio data to a digital amplifier using a coaxial cable with RCA connectors at the ends. It likewise employs a MIDI connector, usually gold-coloured, which is used for connecting musical instruments. This MIDI connector can also serve as a game port for plugging in a controller (like a joystick or gamepad) which has a SUB-D 15-pin connector.
