How to Copy a Movie on to the Computer

Level of difficulty: Easy

There are many ways to copy movies on to the computer. The first one is to copy movies from DVDs to computers by using DVD or CD ripping software. CD and DVD ripping software such as Nero and Xilisoft are required to enable the transfer of movies from DVDs or CDs to computers. This type of software has features that can rip DVD formats. DVD ripping applications also allow users to convert DVD formats to other video formats including (1) MPEG, (2) AVI, (3) MP4, (4) WMV, (5) DivX, (6) XviD, (7) WMA, (8) WAV, (9) M4A, (10) RM, (11) 3GP, and (12) OGG. Some DVDs are difficult to be copied. Most original movies stored in a DVD are usually protected with CSS or UOPS technology. This technology encrypted in the DVD prevents users from copying the stored movie, but with the use of special DVD ripping software, copy protection technologies like CSS and UOPS are possible to be removed. The other way is to transfer movies with the use of a USB connector. A USB connector is only required if the movie to be copied is from other devices such as Sony PSP, Ipod, or mobile phone.

Materials Needed:
- Nero
- Xilisoft DVD Ripper
- DVD-ROM
- DVD-RW
Step 1
Search on the Internet for DVD ripping applications capable of removing copy protection technology. Users can visit the official website of Nero or Xilisoft to see the software features before choosing one and downloading a trial version.
Step 2
Download and install the program in the computer. When the download of the program is finished, an installation prompt will automatically appear. Follow the given instructions upon installing the program.
Step 3
Once the program has been installed, the user can then run the DVD ripping software by clicking the application’s icon. Clicking the icon will allow the program to display its application window.
Step 4
The window of the DVD ripping software provides a series of actions, in which the user can choose what to operate first. Actions such as rip, convert, copy, and burn are displayed on its main window. Most DVD ripping programs are easy-to-use and easy to navigate.
Step 5
Configure the 'rip' settings of the program. This is where the user can organize their target result such as volume, video resolution, quality, and output modes.
Step 6
After arranging the entire desired outcome, the user can then select the action 'Rip' to copy movies from DVDs to the computer.
Step 7
For movies transferred from other electronic devices such as Sony PSP and Ipod, just initially plug the USB connector of the device to the computer. After plugging the USB connector, a window will be displayed where users can view the folder containing data from the device. Open the folder where the movie that will be copied is located. Drag and drop the icon of the movie from the folder of the device to the folder in the computer. Users can also simply copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the icon through the hotkeys (keyboard shortcuts) mentioned.
