How to creat your own websiteLevel of difficulty: Easy
A personal website is a collection of related web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that can be used for informative or entertainment purposes. The content of personal websites often varies. It can be used for biographical information, resumes or blog posts. It is a wonderful medium to for one to express one’s opinions or creative endeavors that, otherwise, might not simply have an outlet.
- Specialized software
To create your personal website you will require certain things like-(1) Modems (2) Scanners (3) Internet Service Providers (4) Adobe Photoshop (5) FTP programs (6) Macromedia Dream Weaver (7) Microsoft Front Page (8) Microsoft Word (9) Netscape Composer (10) Paint Shop Pro (11) Clip Art CD-ROMs (12) Scanning software.
To begin with, first you have to choose an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to host your Website. You should then have to run a check on several hosting services, considering factors such as maximum available space, accessibility and terms and conditions applying to the service. Then select and download a simple Web-page editor that will let you see what your site looks like while you are creating it, so you won’t have to learn HTML or other programming languages. Netscape Composer is one such editor which you can download for free for your work. Your web-page editor will give you specific instructions regarding options such as naming your site, creating different sections, creating suitable backgrounds, adding links and inserting images. You can create images for your site by drawing them with the Paint application present in your computer. You can also use a scanner for photographs and other hard-copy images. If you came across an image on another Web-page that you like and would want to use, then e-mail the page’s owner or administrator and request permission to download and post it. Download an image from a Website by right clicking on it and selecting Save Picture.
Your Web host ISP may have its own system in place for uploading pages. Otherwise, obtain any a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) for the purpose. Then open your FTP program and log in to your host server by entering your login name and password. Access the directory where your home page belongs (your Web ISP will give you this information). The directory address is usually in the form of /pub/username, /pub/www/username or /pub/username/www. Your FTP program and host server are likely to have specific instructions on how to access your directory. Then you have to upload each page and graphic of your site according to the specific instructions of the FTP program and your host server.
