How to Make Your Computer Run Faster

When a computer is new it gives you optimum performance. This entails quick startup, fast processing, and proper function. Computers start to slow down as we use it everyday on whatever purposes we intend to use it for. Proper periodical maintenance would allow the computer to keep operating efficiently and extend the functionality of the computer.

Step 1
Click on 'Start' and go to 'All Programs'. From there, a new menu will open. Choose 'Accessories'. After choosing 'Accessories', choose 'System Tools' and click on 'Disk Cleanup'. The Disk Cleanup allows you to remove several things on the computer that may cause why your computer is running slow. The Disk Cleanup will delete temporary Internet files, offline Web pages, compressed old folders, recycle bin, and temporary files.
Step 2
Disable auto start programs. From 'Start' menu, click 'Run' and type 'msconfig'. Select the programs that you are not using on the 'Startup' tab. After choosing the programs, click the 'Apply' button. A message will appear to restart the computer. Restart the system in order for the changes to take effect. This will disable programs to start whenever you start up the computer. Restart the computer

You may also use a Defragmenter tool. Double click on the 'My Computer' icon, right click on the hard drive icon that is by default is the letter 'C:' and select on 'Properties'. Click the 'Defragment Now' button from the Tools tab. Other ways to defragment your system is to click on 'Start' and go to 'Accessories'. A menu will appear. From that menu, select 'Disk Defragmenter'.
Step 4
Remove unwanted programs. From the start menu, go to 'Control Panel'; select the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon. A list of programs installed on the system will be populated. From that list, you will see the frequency of usage of that program. From there, you can choose what program/s you wish to delete. After you have deleted the program/s that you have chosen, restart the computer in order for the changes to take effect.
Step 5
Disable visual effects. You can select which visual effect your computer will use by going to the 'Control Panel'. Choose the 'System' icon. Look for 'Performance' in the 'Advanced' tab. By adjusting the settings, the computer will run faster.
Step 6
Remove malware programs that include spyware and viruses. Run your anti-virus program. Let it scan your whole system. Once the scanning procedure is finished, checked the report. From the report, you can view if there are viruses and/or spyware applications on the system that may have caused your computer to run slow.
