Level: Recommended For Novice Users
Description:
Internet explorer uses url protocol prefixes in the address bar to detect the right protocol when accessing a website. The url protocol prefix always comes first as a part of the web route. Although the protocol prefix is always included in the url when using proper syntax, internet explorer defaults the "http://" prefix. This means, if you access a website with an incomplete syntax in the address bar, internet explorer will try to complete it. Here's an example: you type "www.systweak.com" in the address bar of internet explorer, but the correct url is "http://www.systweak.com". Internet explorer will take the first part of the domain name "www" and will check if this protocol is listed. Upon finding the entry "http://" associated to "www" it will add the protocol to the domain name. For this, go to start > run, enter "regedit" and search the keys listed below to see all url protocol prefixes included in your internet explorer. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.
