Level: Recommended For Experts Only
Description:
When a file is processed to download from any website, internet explorer launches the file download dialog box, which gives the option to save the file on your computer. But with this tweak, you can turn off the feature to save the file. Important: even if you turn on file saving option in the file download dialog, all the open internet explorer windows will not show the effect. For this, go to start > run, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a dword value noselectdownloaddir at hkey_current_user and hkey_local_machine registry paths, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value to 1 which can restrict saving a file from the file download dialog in internet explorer. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to 0. Restart internet explorer for the changes to take effect. However, for windows 98 users, the changes will take effect only after a restart or logoff of your computer. Note: this feature works on internet explorer version 5 and above. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.
