Restrict changes in default browser checkbox in programs tab of Internet Explorer

This tweak restricts you to make changes in the default browser checkbox in the Programs Tab of Internet Explorer.

The default web browser is managed by file type associations - file type protocol, gopher protocol, hyper text transfer protocol (http) and hyper text transfer protocol with privacy. Web browsers check your current browser and put its settings in the default browser. There is a feature called, set program access and defaults (spad), which lets you select the web browser from the options microsoft windows, non-microsoft and custom - , if you are working under windows xp or windows 2000. If you do not have this feature, then turn the default browser prompt for your preferred browser. Shut down and restart the program and select yes. Now, turn the prompt off. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below after creating the subkey, control panel, if it does not exist. Now, create a dword value name check_if_default in the right panel, if it does not exist. Right-click it and modify the data value with 1 to enable the setting and 0 to disable it. Click ok and close the registry editor. Restart the system or logoff to see the changes taking effect. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.


First, click the Start button, and select Run. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit"
Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] and create a new key "Internet Explorer"
Third, create a subkey "Control Panel" under "Internet Explorer".
Fourth, create a DWORD value "Check_If_default".
Now,right-click on "Check_If_default" and select 'Modify'
Finally, set the "Value Data" to 1in the textbox provided and click on 'OK'.
