Add colorful message background in Outlook Express ver 4.
This setting enables you to use colorful background in compose message section of Outlook Express ver 4.

Using a picture or color as the background means you type your message on top of the background, giving your message a designer's touch. When you use html as your message format in outlook express ver 4, not only can you add pictures or color, you can use them as a background for the entire message. For this, go to start > run, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a string value colorcycle, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value to 1 which can display the colorful message background. However, if you want to disable this feature, change the value data to 0 or delete the value. Restart outlook express for the changes to take effect. Upon starting outlook express and then new message window, hold down ctrl+shift keys and press z key to scroll to change the background color. Repeat the keystroke to cycle through the colors. Note: windows 98 had outlook express ver 4 but windows 98se had outlook express ver 5. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the <b>[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Mail and News\]</b> key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > String Value" to create a new String value with the name "ColorCycle".

Third, right-click on the 'ColorCycle' String value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
