This setting disables automatic update for Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher version.

Description:
Windows media player plays digital media like cds and dvds to give the best experience of audio/video albums and internet radio. It checks periodically for updates but this setting allows you to disable this feature in windows media player. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a dword value disableautoupdate under windowsmediaplayer key, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value data to 1. This registry setting should be used if you are working on windows media player 7.0 and above. Else, create a string value enableautoupgrade under mediaplayer key and right-click to modify it value to no, when the version of windows media player is 6.4 or earlier. The changes take effect after a restart or logoff. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".
Second, go to the <b>[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\]</b> key, right-click and click on the "New > Key" to create a new key with the name "WindowsMediaPlayer".
Third, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > DWORD Value" to create a new DWORD value with the name "DisableAutoUpdate".
Fourth, right-click on the 'DisableAutoUpdate' DWORD value and click on "Modify".
Fifth, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
Sixth, go to the <b>[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\]</b> key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > String Value" to create a new String value with the name "EnableAutoUpgrade".
Seventh, right-click on the 'EnableAutoUpgrade' String value and click on "Modify".
Eighth, enter the value "no" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
