This setting enables you to hide the .DOC file extension. If you have a file for example Work.doc, you can hide the extension that it looks like Work.

Description:
With this setting you can hide the extension of microsoft word document (.doc) files. If you have a file for example work.doc, you can hide the extension that it looks like work. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, create a string value nevershowext, if this value does not exist, and leave the data blank. This hides the extension for the file. The changes take effect after a restart or logoff. Note: to show extension of files in windows 2000/xp/2003: open any folder > go to tools menu > view tab > unselect the option hide extensions for known file types. To show extension of files in windows win 98/me: go to start menu > settings > folder options > view tab > unselect the option hide extensions for known file types. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.

First, click the Start button, and select Run. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".
Next, go to <b>[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WordPad.Document.1]</b>, right-click and click on 'New -> String Value' to create a new String Value with the name 'NeverShowExt'.
Finally, leave the data value blank.
