Level: Recommended For Experts Only
Description:
Windows stores the view settings and customizations of each folder in the registry. The cache inside the registry is normally limited to 400 folders (200 for local folders and 200 for network folders) but it can be increased with some changes in the registry. If you use the default value - 400, the new entry overwrites the first entry. So, keep the number as high as possible as not to affect the performance of the system. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below at ordinal position 1. Now, create a dword value name, bagmru size in the right panel, if this value does not exist. Right-click this value name and modify the value data with the desired number in decimal. Now, navigate to the registry path listed below at ordinal position 2. Create a dword value name, bagmru size in the right panel, if this value does not exist. Right-click this value name and modify the value data with the with the desired number in decimal. However, delete bagmru size registry entry from both the locations for default setting. The changes take effect after a restart or logoff. Note: if you want to give all the folders the same view and does not want to change them in future by yourself and by someone else, you have to first clear the earlier stored view settings history of folders by deleting the two value names present at the keys listed below. Secondly, create the same value names again and set their data to 0. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.
