Description:
If you open a file with unrecognized file type, you have to search on microsofts site or have to search appropriate application in the programs list. This setting enables you to associate every file with unrecognized file format to a suitable application. Therefore, the next time you open file of this type, the application originally associated to this file will open it. This avoids you from associating the application to such files every second time. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify data of the default string value to open. Then, create subkeys \open\command as explained below. Finally, change the data of default string value under command subkey, with the exe file name of associate program (like "notepad.exe") linked to the unknown file type (write complete path if not in \windows\system32\ folder). The changes take effect after a restart or logoff. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.
