Disable "Show Updates" option in Add/Remove Programs

Description:
The user has the option of selecting programs/installed updates to hide or display in add/remove programs in windows 2003 sp1 and windows xp sp2. More software updates are being created these days and they all can be shown in change or remove program list. The installed programs and the updates can be shown separately. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys \currentversion\policies\uninstall\ is not present, create it as explained below. Create a reg_dword value name "dontgrouppatches" (if this value doesn't exist). Right click on the option dontgrouppatches, and from the drop down menu, select modify. Enter the value "1" to enable the setting. Close the registry. Restart the system. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to <b> [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policie s\Uninstall\]</b>,right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "DontGroupPatches" in "Uninstall" key.

Next, right-click on "DontGroupPatches" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) without quotation in he text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.
