Disable "Show Updates" option in Add/Remove Programs
Level: Recommended For Novice Users
The user has the option of selecting programs/installed updates to hide or display in add/remove programs in windows 2003 sp1 and windows xp sp2. More software updates are being created these days and they all can be shown in change or remove program list. The installed programs and the updates can be shown separately. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys \currentversion\policies\uninstall\ is not present, create it as explained below. Create a reg_dword value name "dontgrouppatches" (if this value doesn't exist). Right click on the option dontgrouppatches, and from the drop down menu, select modify. Enter the value "1" to enable the setting. Close the registry. Restart the system.
