This setting enables you to change the default path of Windows File Protection cache folder.
Level: Recommended For Experts Only
Description:
You can provide any path although the default path will always be %systemroot%\system32 to store the cached versions of the system files. Dllcache folder appends itself where ever you give the path. For example, if you give d:\wfpmisc then the actual path will become d:\wfpmisc\dllcache. Windows saves the cached files always in dllcache folder. Normally, this folder exists in the \windows\system32 folder. You can control the cache location by modifying the registry key. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys \currentversion\winlogon\ is not present, create it as explained below. Create a reg_expand_sz value name "sfcdllcachedir" (if this value doesn't exist). Right click on the option sfcdllcachedir, and from the drop down menu, select modify. Enter the path as explained above to enable the setting. Close the registry. Restart the system. 3. Click the (reg_expand_sz) data type sfcdllcachedir value name in the right pane. 4. Type if you want to store the cache on c:\misc\dllcache, enter only c:\misc as the path in the value data field, and then click ok. 5. Restart the computer. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.
