In Windows XP(Service Pack 2) the security center will display a warning in the notification area(next to the clock), if the automatic updates are not configured correctly. You can disable this warning.

Description:
In windows xp (service pack 2) there's the new feature security center that displays information about the status of your firewall, automatic updates and your anit-virus scanner. If one of these components is not working, windows will inform you with a balloon tip in the notification area (next to the clock). You can disable this warning for the automatic updates. For this go to "start->run" and enter "regedit" and search the keys listed below. You can create one dword value "updatesdisablenotify", if this value is not existing. Now you can set this value to "1" for disabling the automatic updates warning of the security center. After a restart the changes take effect. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".
Second, go to the <b>[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\]</b> key, right-click on the 'UpdatesDisableNotify' DWORD value and click on "Modify".
Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
