This setting lets you show desktop in places bar in MS Office 2003.

Description:
Ms office 2003 has a places bar on the right-side of its open/save dialog box. This dialog features a lot of system folders by default like my documents, desktop, recent, favorites but you can display or hide them with the help of registry. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey \11.0\common\open find\places\standardplaces\desktop is not present, create it as explained below. Now, create dword value name show, if this value does not exist and modify the data value to 1 to show desktop in place bars and 0 to hide desktop. Click ok to close the registry. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".
Second, go to the <b>[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Open Find\Places\StandardPlaces\Desktop\]</b> key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > DWORD Value" to create a new DWORD value with the name "Show".
Third, right-click on the 'Show' DWORD value and click on "Modify".
Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
