Add a User Defined Folders in Places bar
This setting enables you to add a new user defined folder to places bar.

Description: Places bar is placed on the left side of microsoft office open/save dialog to allow the user fast access to history, desktop, my documents etc. You can add a new user defined folder to this bar. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkeys \10.0\common\open find\places\userdefinedplaces are not present, create it as explained below. Now, create a key placen, if not existing. N stands for any number starting from 1. Create two string value names, name and path, if these values do not exist. Now, right-click them and modify the data values with the name of the folder and its full path to enable the setting. To go back to original settings, just delete the sub key placen. Click ok and close the registry editor. Logoff or restart your system.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit". |

Go to <b>[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0 \Common\Open Find\Places\UserDefinedPlaces\]</b>, key and create a new key with the name "PlaceN" under "UserDefinedPlaces". |

Now, right-click in the open area to create a String Value with the name "Name" in "PlaceN" key. |

Next, right-click on "Name" and click on 'Modify'. |

Enter the value "User Defined Name" without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'. |

Now, right-click in the open area to create a String Value with the name "Path" in "PlaceN" key. |

Next, right-click on "Path" and click on 'Modify'. |

Finally, enter the value "User Defined Path" without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'.Once you are done. Exit from registry. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect. |
