Set Four Digit Year in Microsoft Excel 2000
In Microsoft Excel there are several default formats for the date and the most frequently is the system short date (YY). If you type a date with a 4-digit year (YYYY) in Excel, it will be showed as 2-digit year (YY). This setting enables you to alter the default to 4-digit format.

For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a dword value enablefourdigityeardisplay, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value to 1 which can set the default as 4-digit format. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to 0.

Next, right-click on "EnableFourDigitYearDisplay" and click on 'Modify'. |

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) Without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect. |
