Description: The shutdown event tracker was created to give a better impression of why the computer is shutdown/restarted. This tracker forces the user to add a comment about why the shutdown is needed. After that the event log will be created with documentation of what changes have been applied to the system, which required a shutdown. This can be useful for the administrator, but also it can be an annoyance for the home user. For this, go to start > run menu, enter "regedit" and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a dword value "shutdownreasonon", if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value to "0" for applying this tweak. Restart your system for the change to take effect. Note: by default, the shutdown event tracker is not displayed on windows xp professional and is displayed by default on the windows server 2003 family and windows xp professional workstation.
