Description:
Windows compatible programs have to include an uninstall program. Sometimes even if program has uninstall functionality, this functionality doesnt delete entries from add/remove programs. By using this tweak you are able to manually remove any orphaned entries. Beside that, you can use this tweak if you want to manually and on purpose hide some application in add/remove programs. After that user wont be able to remove or change hidden application. For this, go to start > run menu, enter "regedit" and navigate to the registry path listed below. Under that key will be some sub keys, each representing one installed application. To see which application each sub key represents, open it and there should be at least two values "displayname" and "uninstallstring". "displayname" is the name used in the add/remove programs list and "uninstallstring" is the program used to uninstall the application. Now, to remove a particular program from the list you can either rename these two string values representing that program or delete that particular sub key (for experts only). To include the program again in list, restore the name or key as it was previous. The changes take effect after a restart or logoff. Note: in windows 2000, you only have an option to delete the sub key of the program which you want to hide from the list. It cant hide the program name but only disable the feature of change/remove for that program. Export that particular sub key before deleting so that you can restore it again whenever you want to re-include that program in list.
