There are two methods that can be used to hide the links folder. One of them is using the registry and the other using file attributes. Both methods are detailed below. Using the registry for this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click the string value linksfoldername, in the right panel, and delete the value data. Then, open internet explorer and delete the links folder from the favorites menu, this stops it being automatically recreated. The next time you start internet explorer the links folder is not displayed either in the favorites menu or in the toolbar. Using file attributes using explorer find the location of your favorites folder (e.g. C:\documents and settings\<username>\favorites) within that folder will be a sub-folder named links. Right-click the links folder and select properties, here, check the hidden checkbox and click ok. From now on the links folder should be hidden from the favorites list. This works for any other folder or link on the favorites menu as well. The changes take effect after a restart or logoff. Note: in windows vista, you just have to delete the links folder from favourites menu. When editing the registry it is highly recommended to run a quick scan for optimization, you can test your system now for free.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".
Second, go to the <b>[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\]</b> key, right-click on the "LinksFolderName" String value and click on "Modify".
Third, delete the value in the text box and click on 'OK'.
Finally, go to "Internet Explorer > Favorites > Links" and click on "Delete". The "Links" folder must be manually deleted from the favorites menu. This stops it being automatically recreated.
