What is: ILM (information lifecycle management)
 
Description:
The management of a storage infrastructure and the data in that infrastructure. All data in a storage network has a lifecycle that starts when the data enters the system until the data is archived or removed. Three stages comprise the information lifecycle: (1) acquiring or creating data; (2) publishing data either electronically or in print; and (3) archiving or removing data. The purpose of the information lifecycle is to the data accessible to the users who need it. The information lifecycle also determines how long information is archived and the best software and hardware for moving and storing data.
