encryption - Term
Description
What is: encryption
Description:
The process of using a secret key or password to prevent unauthorized viewing of data. WinBackup uses several levels of encryption strengths including 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) and 256-bit AES. These figures relate to the size of the keys that are used to encrypt your data. It is important to note that the higher the level of the size of the key used, the stronger the encryption and the slower the backup process will be. These two levels of encryption provide significantly greater security to your data than the simple use of a password. WinBackup also requires you to supply the correct password before the encrypted backup archive is viewed or restored. This provides you with additional protection against harmful or accidental intrusion. In case of backup archive theft, for example, no one can access the files that have been backed up within the archive without the proper authentication from the person who created these archives.
