serverless backup - Term Description

What is: serverless backup

Description:
A method of offloading backup processes from a server to save server time for other tasks. Usually, the amount of time that a server can use for processing requests from applications is limited by the time it uses for data backup. Serverless backup is a storage area network (SAN) solution that should lower hardware costs and improve server time usage, tolerance, and scalability. Serverless backup allows disk-to-tape or disk-to-disk backup without relying on server resources or network bandwidth. A number of companies have developed serverless backup products. Some serverless backup products are based on a process known as disk imaging.
