Finding Viruses and Trojans
Most computers are capable of running a large
number of programs simultaneously. This is often a very useful
feature; but it also makes it easier to create viruses and Trojans
that run in the background.
Finding Invisible Processes
Because you probably have a large number of processes already
running on your system, finding a Trojan or a virus process
can be quite difficult. If you are using Windows 98 or Me, the
background processes might not even show up in the task list.
WinTasks 5 Professional lists all processes running on your
computer, including invisible background processes like Trojans
or viruses. Since WinTasks 5 Professional also assigns more
user-friendly names to each process, such as Internet Explorer
instead of iexplore.exe, as well as the full executable file
path, finding and terminating unwanted processes is relatively
easy. Using WinTasks 5 Professional, you also get a lot of additional
information on processes to help you decide which processes
to terminate. For example, you can list all DLLs or windows
used by a process. By searching among DLLs, windows, and other
objects, you can quickly find and remove any security threats.
In the screenshot below, WinTasks 5 Professional shows all DLLs
currently loaded by the Outlook application.

Permanently Removing Trojans
Using WinTasks 5 Professional it is possible to prevent Trojans
processes from loading the next time you reboot. To do this,
you simply open the autostart window in WinTasks and select
the Trojan executable. By disabling the Trojan from this window,
it will be removed from the registry autostart sections and
will not be started the next time you reboot your system. You
can either temporarily disable the Trojan, to find out whether
you have disabled the right program, or you can permanently
remove it from the registry. WinTasks 5 Professional also has
a number of other features like scripting and CPU usage logs
that can be used to detect and remove unwanted processes and
to increase overall system security.
