The ACR91 is basically a device which is designed to support the deployment of pocket sized cards with embedded chipsets or more commonly known as smart cards. The embedded chipsets allows these miniature cards to be used for the processing of information based on the contents of its non-volatile memory. This particular hardware component plugs into an available PCMCIA slot on the host computer system. Since this is not a commonly used peripheral it may not be covered by the generic device drivers found in newer operating system platforms. Therefore it is imperative that the corresponding device driver designed by the manufacturer be used to allow the supported hardware component to read and write information into the smart card. Majority of the deployments for this type of hardware component is found in mobile computer systems which have built-in PCMCIA slots unlike desktop computers that may require an expansion card.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates
By activating the ACR91 with the installation of the correct device driver the computer user can take advantage of its transmission speed of anywhere from 420 kilobits per second to 16 megabits per second. The device driver also supports the PC/SC compliant application programming interface. This is a technology that allows for the establishment of a communication link between a personal computer system and a smart card device. The support for this communication infrastructure has been built into newer operating system platforms. The device driver of the ACR91 allows for the full implementation of the communication interface without necessarily concerning the computer user with the technical details for its successful deployment. When a smart card is hosted by this hardware component the computer user can utilize the host computer system as the main interface for accessing the stored information. Normally these types of computer architectures are deployed as part of a security system. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and ACR91 errors before installing any driver updates.
