The Brother MFC-9660 is a multifunctional hardware component that allows the computer user to connect it to any host computer system using either a Universal Serial Bus or a IEEE 1284 (Parallel) interface port. Although the Universal Serial Bus interface port is considered relatively faster in terms of data transmission speeds its usage is limited to a number of operating system environments. This means that if the host computer system makes use of an operating system platform that is not supported by the Universal Serial Bus interface functionality of the device driver the Parallel communication port must be used. Normally the Parallel interface port is the main communication link provided by older computer systems. The support for this interface port allows the host computer system and the supported hardware component to communicate with each other. The communication link established by the device driver not only allows the software applications to send commands to the printing device but also allows the Brother MFC-9660 to send alerts and notifications to the host machine.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates
In general the Personal Computer interface that is available to the computer user also depends on what is being supported by the device driver. Basically there are emerging operating system platforms which are not inherently supported by the device driver. Usually these operating system environments can access the functionality of the Brother MFC-9660 via third party developed device drivers. Sometimes these types of device drivers only provide support for a specific communication port and so the computer user is limited to what is available in these third party programs. This is also part of the reason why majority of manufacturers do not recognize these third party applications. The printing, faxing, copying, scanning, and Personal Computer faxing functionality delivered by the Brother MFC-9660 is supported not only by its device driver but also by a built-in 8 MB memory module that is expandable to a maximum of 40 MB. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and Brother MFC-9660 USB errors before installing any driver updates.
