The F996 is a flip phone, which has a 2.8-inch LCD vibrant color screen. The F996 supports simultaneous dual-SIM functions. It has networks and band ratings set at GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 MHz. The phone has a 3.0-inch screen and a 1.3 mega pixel camera, made up of 1280 x 960 pixels. In addition, the phone supports web camera functionalities, MP3 player, built-in FM radio and MP4 player. The playback formats supported by the F996 include MP3, MPEG4, 3GP and JPG. The phone can be fitted with a MicroSD card, which supports 256 MB to 8GB memory. The phone is further fitted with a USB disk function and Bluetooth functions. On purchase, the phone is fitted with a 256 MB TF card. The user can however replace it with a higher capacity disc to match his/her storage needs.

The F996 has both GPRS and WAP connectivity. The phone has a MMS transceiver. To support the phone's information storage capabilities, it is equipped with a U disk. The device drivers communicate to the operating system on the host machine and allow the OS to understand the capabilities and the functions of the phone. Bluetooth connections do not however require the user to install the device drivers. The user can connect this cell phone to a PC or a notebook and use it as a modem.
