The Freecom Cable II USB is designed for use on interfaces in both Macs and PCs. It can also be used as a plug and play connection to portable drives and Freecom travelers II drives to notebooks. The cable uses a USB, IEEE 1394 or USB-2interfaces. As such, the cable has multi-connection functions, which can connect to parallel ports, USB ports, Firewire or i.Link ports, card bus and even PCMCIA. Changing connections only require the user to change their Freecom cable II from one connection to a different one. While using the Freecom cable II, one can easily change connections between portable II drives and Freecom Traveller II. The cable has an embedded controller chip, which aids in enhanced performance. The characteristic thin design of the cable aids in enhancing convenience and ease of use. It is 100 cm long, which is an ideal working length in a small office environment.

The Freecom Cable II USB is compatible with windows 98, windows 2000 and windows ME. On a Macintosh platform, the cable can be used on Mac OS 8.6 or any other operating system released after the 8.6 version. The Interface for the PC card version of the cable is a 16-bit PCMCIA type II interface. The card bus version has a 32-bit type II interface, while the parallel version is a printer interface specifically designed for use in the parallel ports on printers. The PC card interface transfers data at three megabytes per second, while the card bus interface transfers data at 28 megabytes per second. The parallel cable on the other hand transfers one-megabyte data per second. The latter is compatible with DOS and Windows 3.x.
