Gigabyte Radeon X1600 PRO features four pixel pipelines; a number that is less than the eight pixels present in the typical cards. Radeon X1600 PRO changes gears in the number of pixel shader processors; ATI has added three shader processors per each pipeline, twelve in total. This increases the shader performance of GPU's which is similar to the X1900 architecture. Gigabyte Radeon X1600 PRO requires the newer 3.0 and 2.0 games to make up for the difference as it operates well with shader operations. However, the memory of Gigabyte Radeon X1600 PRO interface still remains unchanged and also includes 128-bit external link to a 256-bit internal ring bus controller. The sole difference is that Gigabyte Radeon X1600 PRO has lower memory clock speeds and thus uses 256MB of GDDR2 instead of GDDRE. Gigabyte Radeon X1600 Pro 256MB has the clock speeds that are standard, with the core being set at 500MHZ.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates
The memory speeds of this card are set at 800 MHz DDR and are lower than that of the Radeon X1600 XT. This means that the memory bandwidth of Radeon X1600 XT will drop from 22.1 GB/s to 12.8 GB/s for the Radeon X1600 Pro. Radeon X1600 Pro includes support for Shader Model, AVIVO, up to 6x AA & 16X AF modes, 3Dc+ texture compression and is also compatible with CrossFire. The Gigabyte Radeon X1600 Pro 256MB also features Silent Pipe II technology which is an innovative cooling system. This would include heat sinks placed on the bottom and top all connected by sequence of heat pipes. Other features of Radeon X1600 Pro includes S-video as well as two DVI outputs. It has both OpenGL 2.0 API and DirectX 9.0 support. It is compatible with x16 PCI Express interconnect bus standard. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and Gigabyte Radeon X1600 PRO errors before installing any driver updates.
