This product belongs to the monochrome laser printer family with a built-in support for the Printer Command Language set. The device driver for the HP LaserJet 4 Plus also provides support for the more powerful PostScript language. The support for these two types of page description language files allows for the deployment of this printer hardware component in virtually every type of computing environment. The device driver is designed in such a way that it provides backward compatibility for older software applications. In some instances the device driver can also be used with similar LaserJet products to resolve certain issues with older printing programs. Essentially all printer hardware components that belong to this product family are designed to deliver a maximum of 600 dots per inch resolution on a paper print media. The speed of printing supported by the device would vary from four to 17 pages per minute depending on the print engine and model.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates
For the HP LaserJet 4 Plus the manufacturer declared printing speed is 12 pages per minute with a standard built-in memory of 2 MB. The memory module for this particular printing hardware can be expanded up to 66 MB to allow for greater print job storage. The device driver is also designed with four expansion slots that can be used to host various support hardware components that are designed to extend the functionality of the device. The device driver provides the necessary access for the active software application to the 45 scalable fonts supported by the printer. The HP LaserJet 4 Plus through the installation of the proper device driver also implements the proprietary intellifont technology of the manufacturer. Like most device drivers in its class it is also partly responsible for the detection of errors and issuance of alerts and notifications to the computer user. The installation of the device driver is normally accompanied by the extraction of a help file which is used to provide a step by step troubleshooting guide. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and HP LaserJet 4 Plus errors before installing any driver updates.
