Tape drives are data storage devices that read and write data stored on a magnetic tape. It is mainly for data storage or back-up from hard drives and servers. Despite the popularity of magnetic media, such as CD-RW, DVD-RW and Internet based storage, tape drives are favorable because of its low cost per megabyte backups and its speedy ability to recover the data stored. Its storage capacity ranges from gigabytes (GB) to 1.6 terabytes(TB). Data cartridges are removable and can be stored separately. Stored data remains safe in the event of unexpected computer crashes. This particular tape drive, LTO Ultrium 8-slot Autoloader, has a capacity of 800Gb, and a maximum compressed capacity of 1.6Tb. For compatibility purposes, there are installers provided solely for other Operating Systems, such as Linux, Solaris and Netware. This driver is connected and operable using SCSI connectors and connected into a SCSI bus.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates

In 2005, Quantum Corp. purchased Certance, thus it ceased completely as an independent company. However, Quantum corp. provides support for previous Certance products.
