The NVIDIA MCP55 Serial ATA Controller is a computer bus storage for connecting host bus adapters to other mass storage devices including optical drives and hard drives. The SATA is integrated into almost all computers and other consumer laptops in the market. It is designed to replace the standard of the AT attachment. It can use low level commands but ATAs' hosts communicate with a higher speed serial cable over two pairs of conductors. SATA has a lower cable-bulk and cost, and it is faster and more efficient. As of 2009, all parallel ATAs were already replaced with SATA. Hotplugging is supported by all SATA devices such as the NVIDIA MCP55 Serial ATA Controller. It requires the device to run in its native command mode which requires Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI). SATA 1.5 Gbit/s is a first-generation SATA interface and it communicates at a rate of 1.5 Gbit/s, taking 8b/10b encoding into account, there have also been actual uncoded transfer rates of 1.2 Gbit/s.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates
The theoretical output of NVIDIA MCP55 Serial ATA Controller device is 1.5 Gbit/s, which is similar to the PATA/133. However, more advanced SATA devices have more sophisticated features such as NCQ which improve performance in a multitasking environment. At the application level, SATA can handle limited pending transactions like PATA. This device features native command queuing (NCQ), which was adopted as an optional supported feature for both SATA 1.5 Gbit/s and SATA 3 Gbit/s devices. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and NVIDIA MCP55 Serial ATA Controller errors before installing any driver updates.
