The SMC EZ PCMCIA Adapter (SMC8022) is a type of Network Interface Card which allows the host computer system to join a network environment. It is hosted in the PCMCIA slot of the machine which in most instances is commonly found in mobile or laptop computer systems. Once plugged into this expansion slot the underlying operating system will immediately detect its presence since most of the devices that fit into this slot are supported by the Plug and Play technology of newer operating system platforms. However, being detected does not automatically mean that it can become operational or functional. The role of the device driver in most instances it to make the supported hardware component operational and allow it to deliver its intended functionality. In some instances newer operating systems may have the capability of providing generic device drivers that can activate the hardware but not all of its feature sets. This translates to a limited functionality which is not the intention of its manufacturer. The correct device driver will also ensure fewer possibilities for errors at runtime.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates
When properly installed in the host computer system the device driver will allow the SMC EZ PCMCIA Adapter (SMC8022) to receive commands from the operating system platform and other installed communication programs. This communication layer will also provide the computer user with a way of detecting the current status of the supported hardware component. As with most Network Interface Cards, the SMC EZ PCMCIA Adapter (SMC8022) is also designed to support the prevailing network protocols implemented not only by the host operating system platform but by the network environment as a whole. The support for these network protocols implemented by the device driver is partially responsible for allowing the computer user to take advantage of shared resources and to successfully implement data exchange processes. The device driver also assists in the implementation of security protocols and algorithms including encryption of data packets. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and SMC EZ PCMCIA Adapter (SMC8022) errors before installing any driver updates.
