The VIA/S3G KM400 is an onboard graphics chipset solution for the Athlon XP processor from AMD. This chipset is also has scalable features that support AGP 8X, 2D/3D graphics, fast link to processor, ATA-133, serial ATA/RAID, 8X v-link and USB 2.0. The VIA/S3G KM400 chipset 2D/3D graphics core supports mpeg2 graphics acceleration for excellent multimedia performance. It also exchanges data with the CPU at fast Bus speeds of 333MHz. This chipset also supports DDR200, 266, 333 and 400 types of memory. It uses x8 v-link to connect the north to south bridge and also includes support for serial ATA that provide a bandwidth of 150 megabytes per second for use by the hard drive. Besides VIA/S3G KM400 can effortlessly support eight USB 2.0 ports. The chipset also supports multi level RAID in SATA mode but can only work with two parallel ATA-133 devices at any given time.
Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.
To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates
VIA/S3G KM400 chipset is a Microsoft compatible device that comes with drivers that install in the windows or program directory. This software has versions that can work with 32 or 64 bit computers. The chipset works with different chipsets to perform different functions in the north and south bridge. On the north bridge VIA/S3G KM400 collaborates with VT8237R or VT8235 to enhance AMD processor performance, boost front side bus, support memory boost 2D/3D graphics and support AGP 2x/4x/8x. However, it support multiple memory and Bus speeds of 200/266/33 MHz. VIA/S3G KM400 also links the north and south bridge with 8x v-link at rates of 533 megabytes per second. Other functions that this device supports on the south bridge include AC 97 audio, 10/100 Ethernet network, MC 97 modem, six PCI slots, two SAT^A devices, virtual raid, eight USB 2.0 ports, multiple i/o protocols and power management. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for and VIA/S3G KM400 errors before installing any driver updates.
