Free defragmentation software available for PCs

Defraggler is a free program that optimizes the performance of your Microsoft Windows Windows PC device by rearranging files on both hard-disk drives or solid-state drives. Although you can defragment files on solid state drives, the restructuring process is not ideal for SSDs. A PC HDD is the best choice for defraggler.

Is Defraggler safe?

Defraggler can be downloaded securely on Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems. Third-party advertisements will not be displayed while you use the app. The app is free from adware and malware. Piriform LTD developed and released Defraggler, as well as several other similar PC applications, such CCleaner and Recuva, Speccy and others.

What is Defraggler used for?

Defraggler is a lightweight program that allows you to analyse all files on your drive and defragment them. Reorganizing the items will improve your computer's efficiency and speed.

Files can become fragmented when you add, remove, or edit archives. This is because the system will add records to the space left by deleted data. The space left over may not be fully utilized by the new file. Part of the incoming item might be moved to different locations on the HDD/SSD.

The HDD will use more energy to retrieve the data you have divided. This program allows you to evaluate the condition of your computer hard drive and determine which records need to be reassembled.

Software prevents fragmentation by merging open spaces into one coherent section at the end. The user interface is easy to navigate. The screen will display your hard disk at the top. Under 'Media Type', you can see if the drive is an HDD/SSD.

In the upper part of the UI, you will see the amount of space on the drive. You can see how many GB of the drive's total capacity are available and not being used. As you go through the process, the status of the operation will change. When the analysis is complete, the upper portion will show the fragmentation percentage.

Steps that are easy to follow

To begin assessing your drive, you can click on the "Analyze" button in the lower right corner. The tabbed interface in the 'Drive area will display the results. The total number of fragments as well as the fragmented files can be viewed in the tabbed interface under the 'Drive' area. You can view detailed file statistics by clicking the 'View files button.

The 'File List' tab will provide a list that shows the number of fragments associated with each record. To see where different files are located in your system, you can match the colours in the key in the tab 'Drive map' with the main graph. When you hover over the squares of the table, brief descriptions will appear.

You can choose a quick defrag option from the drop-down menu by pressing the 'Defrag button'. This is useful since the defragging process can be tedious. You cannot alter multiple drives simultaneously with the app. To reposition the content, click on 'Defrag.

You will receive real-time updates about the current status of the task. The majority of fragmented files represented by red squares should now be replaced with the colour blue in this chart. To get the best results, you may need to defragment your computer or laptop several times.

Alternative applications to reorganize files

Auslogics Disk Defrag and PerfectDisk, O&O Defrag and Smart Defrag can optimize your hard drive by evaluating and moving fragmented data. All utilities include a drivemap to show you where the defragmented or fragmented records are located. UltraDefrag is a simple program, unlike O&O, PerfectDisk, Auslogics, and O&O, which have complicated user interfaces filled with features.

UltraDefrag is an open-source project that allows you to build on the existing programming code. Smart Defrag is only compatible with Mac OS, but the rest of the apps work with Windows OS.

Straightforward utility to improve PCs

Defraggler will scan your HDD and SSD for files that have been split. The software will display the separated files in a clear graph, with the exact numbers in the tabbed interface. You can also recombine the documents by selecting 'Defrag'.

You will receive automatic updates if you purchase the premium version. Although updates are not always available, you can still download the free Defraggler software when there are new releases.
