Free first-person horror video

Northbury Grove is a free survival and horror game for Windows by the Scythe Dev Team. It's the first game in the Scythe Saga Universe's planned series.

You arrive early for the Rock the Warehouse festival. But when one of your friends is missing, you feel the need to find her. The graphics are atmospheric and have a VHS-tape effect. If you want to survive, you will need equal amounts of courage, ingenuity, and luck. Fears to Fathom or EXsynchronos are great options for first-person horror stories.

The influences

The developers don't hide their influences. The graphic storyline and storyline of Northbury Grove are directly inspired by classic horror slashers like Friday the 13th or Halloween.

Gameplay

Northbury Grove's developer has paid extraordinary attention to detail. You are free to move around the festival grounds as well as the car park and warehouse. Sometimes, you may even find a clue that will help you move the game forward.

It's especially impressive that items you have previously picked up when you die or respawn are moved to new locations. It becomes less repetitive by incorporating this feature into the game.

The VHS effect

The VHS effect adds to the horror film atmosphere of the 70s/80s. The developer is aware that there may be an issue with monitors with 4K resolutions or higher. Therefore, they recommend that you play the game in windowed mode at standard resolution, or turn off the VHS effect entirely in the Pause menu.

Our take

Northbury Grove is a masterpiece of design and execution. It's hard to believe this is Scythe Dev Team’s debut game. Northbury Grove is a game you must play. The graphics are smooth, the background music is original and the gameplay is all great.

We are particularly impressed by the attention to detail shown in the game's mechanisms. Your character can die and be respawned. Items you have collected will go to different places, which prevents repetition. We are looking forward to the next installment of the anthology.
